NVIDIA Texture Tools

This page contains several useful texture manipulation tools. The tools are listed below, with a description for each tool.

Description

DDS Utilities This installer includes four separate utilities:
  • nvDXT - command-line binary version of the nvDXT library
  • detach - extracts MIP levels from a .DDS file
  • stitch - recombines MIP levels into a single .DDS file
  • readDXT - reads compressed images and writes .TGA files
3ds max .dds Plug-ins Allows 3ds max to read .dds files. The installer includes versions for 3ds max 3, 4, and 5, as well as source code for the latest version.
Adobe Photoshop Normal Map and DDS Authoring Plug-ins This installer contains two plug-ins.  The first creates normal maps from height maps for per pixel rendering. The other is a DXTC texture compression plugin for Adobe Photoshop that allows you to open and save .dds files in RGB format. It reads and writes .dds files compressed or uncompressed. If you're using Jasc Paint Shop Pro, read these simple instructions that explain how to use the DDS Authoring plug-in with.
DDS Thumbnail Viewer Allows you to view .dds files in Thumbnail view in the Windows Explorer.  Now with an installer.
Texture Atlas Tools A collection of tools for creating texture atlases, which can help to increase batch sizes. Comes with an installer, Atlas Creation Utility User GuideAtlas Viewer User Guide, and a whitepaper about texture atlases in general.
